Pearl Harbor was Japan's first attack against America while it was at war with other countries. This deliberate surprise attack killed many American civilians and damaged or destroyed army vehicles. This event swayed Truman's decision towards using the atomic bombs against Japan later in 1945.

This video shows the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, December 7, 1941. Over 2400 US citizens were killed, 18 ships destroyed, and about 200 planes destroyed. The attack was deliberate, and considered unprovoked. This attack ultimately lead to the decision of entering WWII. It marks the beginning of America's entry into the war and struggle with Japan.

This photo shows the sinking of one of eighteen boats that were struck by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor. The attack was only two hours long, however, the Japanese used Kamikaze bombing techniques as described in the photo below to cause utter destruction in Pearl Harbor.

A Japanese pilot would deliberately empty his ammo into the enemy and then, when all resources are spent, deliberately drive his plane into a target, causing massive destruction.
